Get ready for a fascinating summer immersion in science!

On 13 May, Olga Gladkova, Director of the Institute of International Education, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, and Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Department of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tula State University, presented to Russian students, postgraduates, and attending physicians of our university an educational product: the III English Summer School-2024 ‘Dive into Science!’
The project, initiated and developed by TulSU, has gained popularity among young learners and has already passed the test of time. The second English Summer School, which took place in 2023, was supported by a grant from the Agency for the Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh). The University has also applied for grant to implement the English Summer School this year.
The project leader is Abdulhalem Mustafa Mohammed Abdulhalem, a student of the Medical Institute from Iraq, and the mentor is Olga Dmitriyevna Gladkova herself. Alexey Andreyevich Kornelyuk, a postgraduate student of TulSU in the field of ‘System Analysis, Management and Information Processing, Statistics’, who has a professional retraining diploma ‘Translator in the field of professional communication’, is also actively engaged in the work of the school.
The English Summer School, Olga Dmitriyevna explained, is a ten-day internship in English. As it`s well-known, English is still the language of international science. Therefore, for those wishing to pursue a successful research trajectory, it is essential to possess a practical knowledge of the English language.
The internship will provide participants with the opportunity to develop their skills in English for Academic Purposes, as well as their spoken English and, most importantly, their research and development activities. This year, the English Summer School will focus on these skills.
The school programme is quite intense. It includes popular science lectures, daily meetings of the discussion club ‘Pump Your English Up!’, scientific and educational excursions, cultural, recreational and sports programmes.
Last year the participants visited the Polenovo Estate Museum and the new building of the Cosmonautics Museum in Kaluga. The current excursion menu promises to be no less exciting.
The English Summer School will take place at the Polytechnic Educational and Recreational Complex from 18 to 27 July inclusive. Participation in the programme, which includes delivery, accommodation, meals, and activities, is free of charge. As soon as the students get on the bus and head for Bunyryovo, they will immediately immerse in the language environment. For this purpose a special method of intensive immersion was developed. Teachers from the departments of ‘Foreign Languages’ and ‘Linguistics and Translation’ of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences will assist the participants.
Olga Dmitriyevna informed that international students of TulSU would be responsible for the discussion club. The university provides higher education to the citizens of 71 countries of the world, and for many of them English is their native language. That is why it is of great importance for Russian students to be able to communicate with native speakers.
At the end of the English Summer School-2024, the participants will receive an internship certificate. They will also undoubtedly make new friends and have many unforgettable impressions.
After Olga Dmitriyevna Gladkova's presentation, students, postgraduates and attending physicians had the opportunity to ask her and other organisers questions that interested them.
