Results of the Russian Language Olympiad Summed Up

International students of Tula State University became prize-takers of the International Online Olympiad in the Russian language by St. Petersburg State University/

The Olympiad was held online, and it allowed students from different cities to take part in it and demonstrate their skills. The Olympiad included tasks of different degrees of difficulty aimed at testing knowledge in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style of the Russian language.

Mustafa Abdulhalem was born in Iraq and used to live in Turkey. –  "I started studying Russian in my homeland, and while at school,  I began thinking about getting admitted to a Russian university."
The first thing that surprised the young man upon his arrival in Russia was the citizens’ love for their history and culture:

– As a native Arabic speaker, I find Russian difficult to learn due to the large number of rules and exceptions. However, despite this, I am trying to improve my knowledge of the Russian language. This helps expand your intellectual and cultural horizons and opens up new opportunities in life.

Mustafa took the second place in the Olympiad. The student decided to take part to test his level of knowledge. This is also a small training before the state test in Russian as a foreign language:

– In the first part of the Olympiad, it was necessary to complete several tasks related to the text. The second part is mostly listening comprehension. The tasks were of increased complexity, but nothing too difficult.

In his free time, Mustafa Abdulhalem is actively involved in scientific activities:

– I  take part in medical conferences. I participated in conferences in St. Petersburg, Kursk, Ryazan, Belgorod. For example, in one of my presentations, I looked at the technology to change human DNA in order to cure genetic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and Down syndrome.

Ali Elbashir Nureldin Mohamed came from Egypt. He is proud of his country and he wants to become a professional in his activities. To do this, Ali needs to learn Russian.

– I prepared for the Olympiad in advance, solved demo-versions of the tests. I like Russian, it sounds beautiful. I want to speak it fluently. This will also help me go on with my path in medicine.

The victory of our students in the Olympiad is the evidence that our international students not only study the Russian language, but also actively apply their knowledge in practice, participating in various competitions. This contributes not only to the development of their professional skills, but also to the strengthening of international ties.
