About the Russian language in the Languages of the World

The international student  conference “Russian Language through the Eyes of Foreigners” was held at Tula State University on November 24.

The conference became an integral part of the Interregional Forum-Festival of International and Russian students “We Welcome All the Flags!”, which was held with the support of Rosmolodezh this year.

“It’s great that so many guests came to our event, which is being held this year for the eighteenth time. Today, the representatives of nine universities are present here,” Olga Dmitrievna Gladkova, director of Institute of International Education of Tula State University, welcomed all the participants.

Foreign delegations also took part in the events of the forum-festival: they are the representatives of the diplomatic corps of Uganda and Zambia.

Education of foreign citizens is one of the main tasks of Tula State University; the university has been doing this for more than sixty years, reminded Olesya Evgenievna Labadze, vice-rector for international affairs and project management of the university.

“We strive to involve international students in sports, cultural and creative activities, and the most important tool for their immersion in these activities is the Russian language,”  O.E. Labadze says. – Today’s event is of particular importance, since it takes place during the Year of the Russian Language in the CIS, and the importance of the Russian language was first outlined in the Foreign Policy Concept of our country, which was approved by the President.

At the plenary session, reports were made on the participation of international students in Olympiads as a way of motivating their study of the Russian language, on getting to know the language through traveling around Russia. International participants from the universities of Tambov, Moscow, Belgorod and even Magelang (Indonesia) spoke about the study of Russian literature, linguistic means of expressing time in the language and revealed some other interesting topics.

Poster reports were presented: “The role and place of the Russian language in Tajikistan”, “Turkic borrowings in the Russian language”, “Friendship as a traditional value in Arab and Russian cultures: similarities and differences” and others.
