Tula Advanced Engineering School entered the top 10 best AE Schools in the country

The Council for Reviewing and Coordinating the Activities of Advanced Engineering Schools (AES) was held in Moscow and listened to the results of 20 second-wave schools` work in 2025.

Based on the reports, a rating with the subsequent provision of subsidies was formed. Tula Advanced Engineering School entered the second group and took the sixth place at the end of 2025, improving its result by four positions. By the end of 2024, it was ranked the 10th.

— The Council identified three main results of the work of the second-wave of schools. The first and most important is the quality of cooperation between universities and businesses: the amount of extra—budgetary funds attracted by the University is growing every year. So, if in 2024 the ratio of funds raised by second-wave schools to the state ruble was 1.2 to 1 ruble, then in 2025 the ratio increased to 2 to 1 ruble, said Valeriy Nikolayevich Falkov, co-chairman of the Council, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Tula Advanced Engineering School of TulSU “Intelligent Defense Systems” was established on behalf of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, one of the fifty schools in the country created as part of a project by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. Currently, the school has two hundred students enrolled in ten educational programs. 123 of them are masters. A key feature of the learning process is the use of a team-based project approach. The educational process is based on work on specific engineering and scientific projects with terms of reference formed by the industrial partner, Instrument-Making Design Bureau (KBP) named after Academician A.G. Shipunov. Thanks to the development of the research infrastructure, the volume of work carried out in the interests of industry has tripled in 2025.

— Students have been part of project teams since the very beginning of their studies and, under the guidance of mentors from schools and enterprises, they are working to create and improve a family of combat robotic systems. This allows them to join the design staff of the enterprise faster and implement promising tasks with the team. This year, the University will host the first graduation of scientists and engineers. The main goal for 2030 is to become a leading center for advanced solutions in the use of artificial intelligence technologies in precision weapons systems, as well as to create a cross-industry center for the transfer of technologies and developments from the military-industrial complex to civilian areas, said Oleg Aleksandrovich Kravchenko, Rector of Tula State University.

Mikhail Panteleyev, First Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Government of the Tula Region, stressed that Governor Dmitriy Milyaev, in his Message to residents, emphasized the importance of developing science and ensuring that every graduate finds himself in the profession.

— Tula Advanced Engineering School is a modern education system that unites talented young people who create innovative solutions for the needs of the military-industrial complex. The developments of our researchers and engineers are already being implemented in production, which allows us to fulfill the tasks set for us by President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The funds that AES receives will help the school expand its research activities, introduce new technological developments and strengthen cooperation with leading industrial enterprises, emphasized Mikhail Yuryevich Panteleyev.
