Pump Your English Up!

From July 16 to 25, the 5th Summer Linguistic School for young researchers “Dive into Science!” was held at the Polytechnic Educational and Health Complex.

As usual, the Institute of International Education organized the event, with the participation of two departments of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences – Foreign Languages, Linguistics, and Translation.

This year's Summer School was attended by students from the Rostech.Code, Rostech.Quality, and Rostech.Arsenal educational and professional tracks, as well as students from the Institute of International Education with a high level of English proficiency.

The now-traditional “Dive into Science!” Summer School is a 10-day intensive internship focused on developing English language skills, combined with a cultural and recreational program, also delivered in English.

In the first half of the day, participants enjoyed English classes and daily sessions of the “Pump Your English Up!” discussion club, which covered a wide range of challenging topics, including “What Will Technology Be Like in 50 Years?”, “Innovation and Invention”, “The Rise of the Machines - A Possible Scenario?”, and more.

The second half of the Summer School was devoted to project work in international teams under the guidance of experienced moderators. This year's lineup of speakers delivering popular science lectures was also impressive: directors of Tula State University institutes, heads of departments and laboratories at Tula State University, and associate professors.

This year's project took the form of the “Film the Science!” English-language popular science video competition, whose main goal was to communicate any scientific phenomenon, discovery, or technology in an accessible and engaging way - in other words, to popularize science. The participants accomplished this task with flying colors.

On the final day of the “Dive into Science!” Summer School, five project teams presented the results of their projects. The final defense of their projects took place in a formal ceremony in the presence of Tula State University Rector Oleg Aleksandrovich Kravchenko and Vice Rector for International and Project Activities Olesya Yevgenyevna Labadze.

The project “What If... Life Without the Internet?” won first place in the competition.

At the closing ceremony of the “Dive into Science!” Summer School, Oleg Alexandrovich, addressing students in the Rostech.Code, Rostech.Quality and Rostech.Arsenal educational and professional tracks, emphasized the importance of learning English for engineering professions, as it is the key to professional effectiveness, access to knowledge, and career opportunities.

Olesya Yevgenyevna emphasized that an important aspect of the “Dive into Science!” Summer School is its intensive and complete immersion in the language environment, using only one working language for communication and instruction - English. Knowledge of English gives future engineers access to a wider range of information and knowledge sources, helping them stay informed and make timely and appropriate decisions.

The 5th “Dive into Science!” Summer Linguistic School for Young Researchers concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony.
