Medical Institute Resident Receives International Grant
Williams Abdul Kerim, a rheumatology resident in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Tula State University Medical Institute, has been awarded a grant from the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) to implement a project titled "Improving Rheumatology Training and Education in Western Freetown, Sierra Leone." As the lead developer and primary point of contact, he will oversee the initiative.
The project aims to raise awareness about rheumatic diseases and enhance the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals in Sierra Leone through specialized workshops and educational programs in the field of rheumatology.
The project includes the development of comprehensive, free online courses for physicians and students to improve their expertise in rheumatology; a week-long intensive seminar focused on rheumatic diseases, diagnostic criteria, and treatment; an information campaign reaching schools, television, radio, and three major hospitals in Freetown; and, ultimately, the provision of on-site diagnosis and treatment for patients.
The project will be carried out with the support of the International League of Associations for Rheumatology, the African League of Associations for Rheumatology, and the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone.
