Tula State University in Arkhangelsk

From April 24 to April 28, foreign students of Tula State University took part in the V International History School at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov in Arkhangelsk, which is held in pursuance of the order of the President of the Russian Federation with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation.

The organizers of the V International History School were the Russian Historical Society, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the History of the Fatherland Foundation.

The school events were attended by 100 foreign and 50 Russian students, who not only got the opportunity to listen to fascinating lectures on various aspects of Russian history, attend master classes and excursions, but also develop and defend their own projects in front of an authoritative expert jury aimed at updating and popularization of the historical heritage of Russia.

The work of the school took place on five tracks representing various significant eras and events of Russian history:

– Modernization in the history of Russia in the 18th – early 21st centuries;

– History of Russian culture;

– History of the Great Patriotic War;

– The Russian North is a historical and ethnographic heritage in the history of Russia;

– History of the discovery and development of the Arctic.

TSU in Arkhangelsk was represented by five foreign students who went through a complex competitive selection process based on a motivation letter-essay in Russian. These are Mejia Rodriguez Eddy Augusto from Guatemala (the track "History of the discovery and development of the Arctic"), Nasredinov Umejon from Tajikistan (the track "History of Russian culture"), Do Thanh Huyen from Vietnam (the track "The history of the discovery and development of the Arctic"), Abdulhalem Mustafa from Iraq (the track "History of the Great Patriotic War") and Vu Thai Son from Vietnam (the track "Modernization in the history of Russia in the 18th - early 21st centuries").

The operator of the event is the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov - included lectures in the program of the historical school, not only covering the main milestones of the historical development of Russia, but also telling about the regional component - the history of the discovery and development of the Arctic and the heritage of the Russian North.

An excursion to the state museum-reserve of wooden architecture and folk art of the Northern regions of Russia "Small Korely" was organized for the participants of the school. In fact, this is the only place where you can plunge into the unforgettable atmosphere of the former North, where samples of the culture of the Russian North, their unique color and majestic beauty are carefully preserved.

Every day, under the guidance of the curators of the tracks, work was carried out on the author's student projects in international project teams, and on the last day of the school, before the solemn closing ceremony, a public defense of ideas took place.

The teams that made it to the final prepared their projects with great love, but the team of the track “History of the discovery and development of the Arctic” scored the most points with the project “Winter is coming - the Arctic is closer” with the idea of creating an interactive quest to get acquainted with the historical events of the development of the Arctic. As part of the winning team, Do Thanh Huyen from Vietnam, who studies advertising and public relations at TSU, worked on this project.

Director of the Institute of International Education Olga Dmitrievna Gladkova: “The fact that 5 candidates from our university, following the results of a serious competitive selection for participation in the V International Historical School, passed at once, speaks volumes. Our foreign students showed not only excellent knowledge of the Russian language, independence of judgment, but also were able to prove to the selection committee their interest in Russia - its past, present and future. Yes, the guys who took part in the historical school are foreign citizens, but at the same time, they are real patriots of Russia. It is especially pleasant that they had the honor to represent TSU in Arkhangelsk, the operator of the III International Historical School, held in Tula in May 2022.

School participants also shared their impressions.

Mustafa Abdulkhalem: “I am fond of the history of Russia, especially the history of the Great Patriotic War. When studying the history of this period in my country, I came across only descriptions of historical events that took place in the West, and, unfortunately, little information was available about what actually happened in those distant years in the Soviet Union. Now I am in Russia and this is a great chance to get acquainted here with these pages of Russian history.”

The winner of the 5th International Historical School in Arkhangelsk, Do Thanh Huyen, does not hide his sincere joy: “We really put our soul into this project. I am so happy. Our project team will seek financial support from the Russian Historical Society and the History of the Fatherland Foundation for the implementation of our project.”

The students who took part in the V International Historical School received certificates.
