Celebrating Day of Slavic Writing

On May 25, a concert dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture was held at the BioChemTech Research Center. The event was traditionally organized by the Department of General Subjects and Russian as a Foreign Language of Institute of International Education.

This holiday is held every year. Initially, the event was initiated by the Department of the Russian Language, and it was a more intimate event. After the unification of the departments, the holiday gained momentum. There are international students, guests, and teachers here, - the associate professor of the organizing department, candidate of technical sciences Daria Nikolaevna Kochenikhina commented. - Considering that the department is engaged in teaching international students, the holiday becomes a good opportunity for students to get acquainted with the Russian culture. Some of the young people arrived a few months ago and they are already trying to understand our traditions and customs, and are also striving to learn the Russian language.

The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Project Management Olesya Evgenievna Labadze: “I want to greet everyone on the holiday! On this day, we honor the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet - Cyril and Methodius. It is important that you not only study Russian, but are also get interested in its history. Of course, the Russian language has been transformed throughout history, it has been influenced by historical events, technological progress, and discoveries in various fields. It is nice to realize that today the Russian language is an effective means of communication that unites Tula State University students from different countries.”

– I would like all of you to love, respect and understand the Russian language and Russian culture, because they are unique and immensely beautiful! - director of Institute of International Education Olga Dmitrievna Gladkova addressed the participants via video greeting.

After the solemn part, the hosts - Valentina Sergeevna Astakhova and Ekaterina Vladimirovna Kolosova - spoke about the history of the holiday, about how and when the Slavic alphabet appeared, and its creators.

For the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, international students prepared creative performances. They read poems, sang songs, showed sketches.

Among the crative performances there were the best works of the Russian poets.

During the concert, not only the talents of the students were noted, but also their academic success. The head of the department, Irina Marselievna Lagun, awarded the winners and prize-takers of the essay contest “This Many Faces of the World”, Olympiads in the Russian language, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics for international students with certificates of honor.

– The Russian language is very beautiful! I like to study it, there are already successes. I am from Uganda. There are good people in Tula. This is a beautiful city. Today I performed the song "Vera" by Valery Meladze. I chose it because the word "vera" (faith) means a lot to me. I believe in myself and in a better future,” Megan Grace commented on her performance. Recently, the girl took the first place in the All-Russian Olympiad in Russian for international students.

- Today I performed songs with the guys “Let it Always be Sunshine”, “Song of Friendship” and played in the sketch “Baggage” based on a poem by Samuil Marshak.
