The Story of One Congress

From September 13 to 16, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University was hosting the XI All-Russian Congress of International Students Studying in Russia.

The event was held by the Association of International Students of Russia with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University and Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

International students of Tula State University - representatives of the United Student Community - fifth-year students Umedjon Nasredinov (Tajikistan), Mustafa Abdulhalem (Iraq), Sokleang Lim (Cambodia) and a first-year student Megan Grace Nalubega (Uganda) took part in the Congress. Tamara Dmitrievna Kartashova, Deputy Director of Institute of International Education for educational work was accompanying the our students to the Congress.

The Congress program was full of events - an open discussion of the most pressing issues, including the socio-cultural adaptation of international students, project activities of student associations and scientific circles, as well as the employment of international students.

Regional round tables on the agenda of the Congress raised important issues and revealed interesting problems: “Foreign Students in Russia: Current Issues and Vector of Development”, “Practice of Interaction Between Student Associations of International Students and National-Cultural Autonomies”, “Model of an Ideal International Student Community”.

With great pleasure, international students of Tula State University took part in the section of the Congress “On Training State Leaders”, moderated by a good friend of our university - the general director of INCORVUZ-XXI, the founder of the Association of International Students of Russia, the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to Russia and CIS countries Kochofa Anicet Gabriel. During the work of this section, our students had the opportunity to submit questions to Mr. Kochofa and receive important recommendations and comments.

To the question of Umedjon Nasredinov about what he would call a book about his life, Mr. Kochofa answered: “The Story of One Life”, thus stressing the importance of each individual person in the context of our complex multicultural world, as well as the significance of restrained goal-setting, competent self-development and relentless movement forward.

-A special valuable element of the congress program was the exchange of experience among the branches of the Association of International Students of Russia in the format of an open talk, - Deputy Director Tamara Dmitrievna Kartashova noted. - This experience is extremely important for us, especially from the perspective of our intentions to create our own student association.
