International Communication on Tatiana Day

On January 25, the Day of Russian Students, the rector of Tula State University Oleg Aleksandrovich Kravchenko talked over a cup of tea with students studying at Institute of International Education.

17 international activists from 13 countries gathered around the table. Among them there were future doctors, journalists, psychologists, and architects.

This truly sincere event began, as Tatiana Day requires, with warm words of greetings. Oleg Alexandrovich wished the students good health, happiness, good luck and successful completion of the exam session.

Such meetings, noted international students dean Olga Dmitrievna Gladkova, allow international students to share their ideas with the rector and tell him about what the international team of Tula State University is involved into.

The Chairman of the United Community of International Students of Tula State University, a student of  “General Medicine” program Umedjon Nasredinov, made a proposal to create a branch of the Association of Interantional Students at Tula State University.

“We have already attended three congresses of the Association, and we saw how well they treat their guests,” he said. — "We are confident that the branch based at Tula State University will contribute to our successful work as an international community."

Abdulhalem Mustafa Mohammed Abdulhalem from Iraq, who is also taking “General Medicine” program, spoke in favor of creating a Center for Intercultural Communication at Tula State University. In this Center, the young man explained, Days of National Cultures, meetings of the Council of the United Community of International Students will be held, student conferences and round tables will be organized. The international students media center can also be located there.

Oleg Alexandrovich assured the guys that he would consider these proposals. Such creative spaces, he said, certainly give students the opportunity to become more closely acquainted with the cultural traditions and customs of different countries.

Medical students called for the creation of special study rooms in the dormitories where they live.

The rector of Tula State University promised not to ignore their request. At the same time, he noted that if a person has the desire to learn, they will always find opportunities for this.

Oleg Alexandrovich shared with the guys his memories of his student life.

In the dormitory he lived in a room for four people. He even remembered her number of the room - 318.

So, most often his desk was an briefcase  in the form of a flat suitcase, popular at that time. Student Kravchenko sat on the edge of the bed, put the briefcase on his feet and wrote. It happened that he would do this at night, when the other occupants of his room were sleeping...
International students asked Oleg Aleksandrovich to think about organizing a Russian-language and multilingual Summer Schools. The rector supported the idea and spoke in favor of participation in the Russian-language school for those taking a pre-university training course of Russian.International students also spoke about their desire to study in Russian-speaking groups.

During the meeting, the students asked the rector very interesting questions.

For example, they wanted to know what qualities the rector values in students most of all.

— The desire to learn new things and good manners! - Oleg Alexandrovich answered. — It is also very important that a person appreciates and respects the culture not only of their people, but also the culture of the country where they are getting knowledge.

When asked his dream while being a child, the rector replied that in his childhood he did not particularly think about his future path. "I always tried to take something apart and put it back together, although not always successfully. Well, like many boys I did it. And being at high school I became seriously interested in radio electronics, I studied to become an electronics engineer."

There was also a question about what, in Oleg Alexandrovich’s opinion, is more important - to be an excellent student or an active person in life.

Most often, the rector said, both things go together hand by hand. An active person can be active in everything, including studies. But it also happens that, for example, a doctor, being a good specialist, does not strive to be engaged into administrative activities. And there’s nothing wrong with that! The main thing is that this person loves and knows their job, that they are true professionals.

Concluding the meeting, Oleg Alexandrovich gave good advice to foreign students.

— Don’t forget each other after completing your studies! Don't forget your Alma Mater! - the rector said to the students. — And come to visit us!
