Medicine as a Vocation: TSU Welcomes New Medical Students

Knowledge Day marked the beginning of a new life for first-year students of the Medical Institute at Tula State University. These very words echoed from the stage of the concert hall during the solemn ceremony dedicated to initiating the newcomers into the student community.

To congratulate the future doctors on September 1 came a 2009 graduate of TSU, now the Minister of Health of the Tula Region, Sergei Igorevich Mukhin.

He said this was a wonderful event for all the students. For the first time, they put on white coats and came closer to understanding the responsibility a doctor carries. This humane profession requires not only deep knowledge but also an individual approach to each patient. The responsibility, symbolized by the white coat, is something a person who chooses this noble path carries for years.

Sergei Igorevich shared how he himself was nervous before his first September 1. He chose his medical coat and diligently ironed it on August 31... So the feelings overwhelming today's freshmen, he admitted, are very familiar to him.

The Minister wholeheartedly wished the students that all their desires would be fulfilled and their goals achieved. That they would become true specialists, so that at their next meeting, during the diploma ceremony, he could call them his colleagues. And, of course, that they would worthily join the ranks of healthcare workers in the Tula Region.

"With you, dear freshmen, the healthcare system will become better!" said Sergei Igorevich, addressing the students. "Happy holiday! And forward to knowledge!"

The guest presented Letters of Gratitude from the Ministry of Health of the Tula Region for an active civic stance and promptly providing medical aid to victims of a traffic accident to students of the "General Medicine" specialty from the Institute of International Education: Elayan Ali Vahi Zuheir (Jordan), Ghorbani Ismail Mohsen (Iran), Maamo Azad (Syria), Noori Mohammad Nazif (Afghanistan), as well as to a third-year student of the Medical Institute, Egor Shkuratov.

Sergei Igorevich recounted that the future medics were in a car and witnessed an accident. The students kept their composure, provided first aid to the victims, and assisted the arriving medical workers with the medical evacuation of the wounded.

Many kind words for the freshmen were spoken by the Chief Physician of the Tula Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, Dmitry Viktorovich Kharitonov; the Deputy Chief Physician for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the D.Ya. Vanyakin Tula City Emergency Clinical Hospital, Anna Alexandrovna Alyoshina; the Chief Physician of the E.G. Lazarev City Clinical Hospital No. 2 of Tula, Margarita Alexandrovna Tomaeva; the Director of the Medical Institute, Roman Vladimirovich Grachev; and the Head of the Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Elena Efimovna Atlas.

They urged the students to be purposeful, active, sincere, and compassionate, not to fear difficulties, and to boldly move towards their dreams. It is very important, they noted, that they maintain a sense of compassion throughout their lives and continuously improve their skills. And as one of the greats said, perfection has no limit.

The honored guests presented student IDs to students enrolled in targeted training programs.

As is well known, the Medical Institute is famous for its talents. On Knowledge Day, the freshmen had a chance to see this for themselves.

Ksenia Dailneva and Vitaly Zakharov amazed and captivated the newcomers with their vocal talents and artistry. The young woman performed the song "Wind of Change," and the young man sang "Zagaday lyubov" (Wish for Love).

Their performances became a wonderful addition to this bright and familiarly warm event.
