New Materials, Medicines, Devices: How Young Scientists of TulSU Are Advancing Russian Science

At the meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists  of the Tula Region on September 17 the development of scientific and innovative projects was discussed and regional government awards were presented.

The meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the region was held at the National Center "Russia" in Moscow as part of the Days of the Tula Region. Our region was among the first to approve a state program for scientific and technological development, with a current budget of 1.6 billion rubles until 2028, said First Deputy Governor - Chairman of the Tula Region Government Mikhail Yuryevich Panteleev. According to him, the funds are allocated for equipping laboratory infrastructure, creating and improving educational spaces, and financing support measures for young scientists.

"Your research results are of great importance for the economy and social sphere of our region," he addressed the meeting participants. "The joint work of the Tula Region Government, universities, and enterprises creates conditions for our youth to realize their potential here at home – in the Tula region. Over the past years, we have increased support for science and higher education using regional funds."

Mikhail Yuryevich Panteleev congratulated the 24 winners of the annual Tula Region Government awards for the best young scientists in 2025. Among them are 14 representatives of Tula State University (TulSU). In the nomination "For Outstanding Scientific Achievements and Implementation of Scientific Developments into Production", the winners are Alexander Vitalyevich Antsev, Alexey Vladimirovich Kalikanov, Alexey Rafailovich Tokarev, Denis Vladimirovich Chernov, and Sergey Sergeyevich Yakovlev.

In the nomination "For Outstanding Achievements in Research and Teaching", the winners are Natalia Sergeyevna Bessarab, Daria Alexandrovna Voropaeva, Anastasia Yuryevna Isaeva, Olga Alexandrovna Kamanina, Lyubov Sergeyevna Kuznetsova, Daria Gennadievna Lavrova, Alexander Alexeyevich Svetlichny, Irina Nikolaevna Fomicheva, Anna Sergeyevna Kharkova, and Pavel Dmitrievich Shilin.

As noted at the meeting, developments in the fields of new materials, medicines, instrumentation, and biochemical technologies have received a significant boost. The volume of scientific research in these areas has increased. The Tula Region maintains a high ranking in the shipment of innovative goods and services: fourth in the Central Federal District and tenth in Russia.

Tula State University works in constant cooperation with the regional government and, with its support, conducts research in relevant areas for the development of the Tula Region, noted TulSU Rector Oleg Alexandrovich Kravchenko.

"A full-fledged and multi-level infrastructure to support research and scientists, especially young ones, has been created in the region," he said. "Today, we attract students to science from their very first years, developing their commitment to research work – and accordingly, we see results earlier. These include fundamental research that will form the basis for breakthrough discoveries, and applied projects that allow enterprises to achieve results here and now, thus making a direct contribution to the development of the economy of the Tula Region and Russia."

The meeting of the Council of Young Specialists of the Tula Region discussed preparations for the participation of the regional delegation in the 5th Congress of Young Scientists, which will be held from November 26 to 28 at the federal territory "Sirius," as well as the Council's work plan for 2026, which aligns with the approved program for scientific and technological development of the Tula Region. The meeting participants agreed to create working groups in various fields, whose task will be to develop various support measures for scientists and to implement best practices from other regions.
