Tula State University Rector spoke about supporting student families
On June 30, Governor Dmitry Vyacheslavovich Milyaev held a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Demographic and Family Policy.
The regional governor noted that a focus on health preservation is becoming a new focus in the area of demography and family support.
“It's important to understand that health is a complex concept that encompasses not only physical but also mental and social well-being. At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, we announced plans to create a separate corporate health preservation standard that will be implemented at enterprises in the region”, D.V. Milyaev emphasized.
As part of the national project “Long and Active Life”, the region plans to sign 50 agreements on the implementation of corporate programs to promote workplace health promotion by 2026, with 150 such agreements to be signed by 2030.
Dmitry Vyacheslavovich recalled that Tula Region has a regional program to increase the birth rate, which encompasses all areas of family and demographic policy. An interdepartmental plan consisting of over 200 points has been developed in collaboration with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives: specific activities and initiatives to support families with children and foster family values.
Students from large families are exempt from tuition fees at the Higher School of Economics, Tula State University, State Pedagogical University named after L.N. Tolstoy, and Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov.
The Governor stated that the Government is focusing on the needs of families in its efforts to increase the birth rate. Particular attention is being paid to young and student families.
Tula State University Rector Oleg Aleksandrovich Kravchenko spoke about the university's support measures for students with families. Tula State University has 117 full-time students with children (including five mothers with many children), and 6% of these parents are both students. The university provides these students with individualized curricula, allowing them to continue their education during pregnancy and child-rearing. Furthermore, the university offers a transition from fee-paying to free tuition for women who give birth during their studies - seven students have already taken advantage of this program.
Oleg Alexandrovich particularly emphasized the importance of the university's kindergarten, which is a key social support factor for the families of both employees and students. The kindergarten also includes a mother-and-child room and a short-term stay group for children.
The Governor also noted that, with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the State Council Commission on Family Affairs organized the All-Russian competition “Family Capital City of Russia”.
Following the meeting, Dmitry Milyaev issued a number of instructions. These included developing a standard for inclusive interaction aimed at involving people with disabilities in all areas of social life, analyzing the needs of industrial employees to extend after-school programs, and creating university-based family centers to work with student families.
