Football is an International Game
On October 14, Tula State University defined the winners and prize-winners of the second World Football Championship among international and Russian students.
Exactly a week ago the championship started. In seven days, as in a big world championship, the group stage games, the playoffs and, finally, the match for third place and the final took place. During these days we experienced many emotions – joy from victories and bitterness from defeats, but this is sport. And yet, in such championships, the main thing is team spirit and a sense of unity. Despite the fact that the champion was defined, the awards were awarded, it can be said with confidence that this time friendship won – international friendship!
Seven teams from Arab countries, Central Asian countries, Tajikistan, Egypt, African countries and Russia took part in World Football Championship, which was held as part of the University Week and was dedicated to the 92nd anniversary of students starting their studies at Tula Mechanical Institute.
In the match for the third place, the representatives of Egypt in a penalty shootout with a score of 4:2 defeated the team of Tajikistan, the main time of the match ended in a draw 1:1.
In the final, the Russian team of first-year students, not without difficulty, defeated the African team with a score of 1:0.
Prizes were distributed as follows:
the first place – the Russian team;
the second place – the team of African countries;
the third place – the Egyptian team;
the fourth place – the team of Tajikistan.
The best player of the championship was Muketo Espoir Junior from Congo, the best goalkeeper was Islom Khuzhaev from Tajikistan, and the best scorer was Armen Revazyan from Russia.
The first-year student Muketo Espoir Junior, receiving the award, said that football is a sport that unites everyone.
“World Football Championship proved this, because we played as if we had lived and trained together for many years, the student explained. – To be honest, the defeat made me sad, we really could have won. But, this means that the team and I need to train further in order to become better and stronger for the next championship. At the same time, I understand that football is a game and losing is a part of the game. As the captain of my team, I will do my best to train!”
The best goalkeeper Islom Khuzhaev is involved in various sports, but football is his favorite. It develops cohesion and team spirit.
“And most of people, I am attracted by the unsurpassed excitement of this game, which manifested itself in our Championship, – Islom said. – We were lucky with the weather, because all the matches were held in the open air at our university stadium. And, of course, a special “thank you” must be said to the fans – their support was very important to us. All players are satisfied with the game and organization of the championship!”
Mohamed Ahmed Mahmud from the Egyptian team called the World Football Championship exciting and amazing, and when, after the award, the student was asked what was most important for him now, he answered without hesitation: “To win the championship next year.”
