Maslenitsa Has Arrived!
Springtime comes to Russia along with the ancient Slavic holiday - Maslenitsa - the most fun holiday of Rus.
It is considered an echo of pre-Christian times, when the Slavs were still pagans. Maslenitsa is celebrated during the whole week before Lent. Moreover, every day of the Maslenitsa week is dedicated to special rituals.
On February 21, international students of a pre-university training course of Tula State University visited Youth Multidisciplinary Center "Rodina". Having been invited by the center, they took part in an event dedicated to the celebration of Maslenitsa.
The students got acquainted with Russian national traditions, learned about daily Maslenitsa rituals, listened to Russian folk songs performed by “Полынь Folk” ethno-group, and took part in Maslenitsa games.
The foreigners tested their strength and dexterity in the cockfight game, and demonstrated their speed in the fast walking boots game.
They especially liked to compete in tug of war - the team "Pancakes" won.
Incendiary folk dances did not leave anyone indifferent, international students happily led round dances and sang along to Russian folk melodies.
Maslenitsa is impossible without pancakes! At the end of the event, the students tried delicious pancakes with different fillings and toppings.
Of course, the impressions of Russian Maslenitsa will remain in the hearts of foreigners for a long time.
