Science brings people together
The world is small, they say here. But the scientific world, as it turns out, can be even smaller.
This was confirmed by a specialist in the field of electrochemistry, professor of the University of Southern Brittany (France) Philippe-Paul Mandin, who is currently at Tula State University. His visit to Tula State University was organised as part of the implementation of the Priority 2030 program.
The scientist arrived at the region's flagship university at the invitation of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Rector of Tula State University Oleg Aleksandrovich Kravchenko, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, Vice-Rector for International and Project Activity Olesya Yevgenyevna Labadze and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Tula State University Project Office Tatyana Viktorovna Kozlova. The latter, by the way, co-authored scientific articles with the French scientist. Yesterday, Mr. Mandin met with Olesya Yevgenyevna Labadze. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation.
Today, June 25, Philippe-Paul Mandin visited the Intercollegiate Scientific and Technical Center "Composite" and talked with its director, candidate of chemical sciences Artem Petrovich Malakho and doctor of technical sciences, professor of the Electro- and Nanotechnology Department of the Polytechnic Institute, leading researcher of the laboratory of chemistry of composite and carbon materials Vladimir Mirovich Volgin.
The Tula colleagues prepared a presentation in English for the French guest about the research work of Tula State University in the field of electrochemical technologies. It was then that Philippe-Paul Mandin realized that he had met Vladimir Mirovich Volgin himself at the university, to whose works, published in prestigious international scientific journals, devoted to the modeling of ion transfer processes in electrochemical systems, he referred in his research. Of course, for Mr. Mandin this was a real event. As a sign of deep respect, he took Vladimir Mirovich Volgin's autograph.

Thanks in large part to this, the communication between scientists acquired a special resonance. When kindred spirits in science meet, time frames disappear, boundaries expand, and more and more new topics for discussion appear. Philippe-Paul Mandin invited Artyom Petrovich and Vladimir Mirovich to his open lecture "Energy. Hydrogen". It was about modern technologies for the conservation and consumption of solar, wind and hydrogen energy. The guest spoke about obtaining hydrogen through water electrolysis.
The French scientist also introduced his colleagues to the C-3POe project, the essence of which is the combined supply of remote areas (islands) with clean fresh water and electricity based on hydrogen technologies based on the principle of optimal use of wind and solar energy with subsequent accumulation in the form of hydrogen.
- I really liked the lecture! - shared Vladimir Mirovich Volgin. - It was interesting to get acquainted with the areas of scientific research activities of our guest.
— The lecture was delivered at a high international level, and at the same time the material was presented in a very accessible form, — emphasized Artyom Petrovich Malakho. — As for the project, it is important to note the deep economic analysis, which testifies to the integration of industrial enterprises of France working in this area.
Tomorrow Philippe-Paul Mandin will give an open lecture on "Energy supply for islands and isolated coastal areas in Europe", and on June 27 - an open lecture on "Experimental setup and skills".
Tula State University has also prepared a large cultural program for the French guest, including an introduction to the Tula State University campus, an excursion to the BioChemTech Research Center, a visit to the Tula Kremlin, the Yasnaya Polyana Museum-Estate, and the Tula State Weapons Museum.
The scientist is accompanied by a translator of the Startup Studio employee Suraya Aidynovna Mamedova. Philippe-Paul Mandin himself expresses deep gratitude to the Tula State University leadership for the warm welcome and the opportunity to communicate with representatives of the university's scientific community. These are the words he said today before the lecture.
