International Students from Tula State University Went Along “The Way of Goodness”
After an intensive course aimed at development of volunteering for international students of Tula State University from November 11 to 13, the number of participants of All-Russian Public Movement “Medicine Volunteers” has increased.
According to the results of the All-Russian competition of the best regional practices for supporting volunteering “Region of Good Deeds,” Tula Region was among the winners with the practice "The Way of Goodness.” As a part of the practice, the regional ministry of youth policy supported the InterVol Project for the integration of international students into volunteering, presented by Tula State University as part of “Medicine Volunteers” Movement.
“The goal of the project is to popularize volunteerism and increase the number of volunteers by attracting international students to this activity,” the regional coordinator of “Medicine Volunteers” Movement, a sixth-year student of Medical Institute at Tula State University Elena Ulyanova said. — We are creating a single platform for interaction between international students in the field of volunteering, creating a high-quality training system for international volunteers and, as a result, building international cooperation, reducing the language barrier and creating a more comfortable environment for students to live and interact in.
The first major event of the InterVol Project was an intensive retreat at “New Wave” Recreation Center devoted to “Medicine Volunteers” Movement. Thirty international and fifteen Russian students of Medical Institute at Tula State University took part in it.
The Deputy Director of Medical Institute Djeiran Oktaevna Aliyeva addressed the participants of the intensive course. She greeted the participants and wished them successful and interesting work. At the opening ceremony, Elena Ulyanova spoke about “Medicine Volunteers” Movement, the students sang several songs and talked to the intensive course participants. Thus, a mood for positive work was created.
Students divided into teams and came up with mottos. "To live is to act." “The pulse is always and everywhere. The pulse is in you and the pulse is in me”. “Where there is agreement, there is victory!” And even: "We fearlessly inject into a vein, if necessary, cut off the gangrene." Each team had to go through five stations where they had to answer questions, complete practical tasks and receive points. Then, there was a lecture on being a donor and a team game on the basics of a healthy lifestyle.
A separate part of the intensive course was devoted to the rules of first aid. Sixth-year student Yegor Bakalenko told the participants about injuries, fourth-year students Yekaterina Manishina, Ioanna Denisova, Yulia Kortukova and second-year student Anastasia Yushchenko demonstrated in practice the provision of first aid for bleeding and loss of consciousness, with cardiac arrest. Actions were worked out on training phantoms.
The intensive course ended with awards, songs and a disco for the participants. The students congratulated each other on a successful event, and the coordinator of international students integration into volunteering at Tula State University Umedjon Nasredinov said:
— The forum was held at the highest level, it was very interesting and informative for everyone. The students are excited about the event. All of them did their best at competitions, communicated with speakers with pleasure, participated in morning exercises, in games. Such events unite us and, of course, contribute to the development of volunteerism.
Medical student Sanjar Zhurabaev decided to join “Medicine Volunteers” Movement after the InterVol intensive course. According to him, volunteerism brings up responsiveness and responsibility in people, helps to develop and improve professional qualities.
— Lectures and quizzes, we took part in, are very important for us, because the doctor learns every day, including from his more experienced colleagues. The intensive course was very informative and helpful, I would love to visit it again!
